If the Lockin app cannot find your lock over Bluetooth, the usual issue is that one part of the nearby setup chain has not passed: the lock may not have enough power, Bluetooth may be off, the app may not have permission, the phone may be too far away, or the lock may not be in the exact add-device step for its model. Wi‑Fi is not the first thing to troubleshoot when the lock does not appear during nearby discovery.
This answer applies to the Lockin Smart app and the Veno family, including Veno Go, Veno, Veno Plus, Veno Pro, and the Veno Solar models. Menus and button names can vary by model, app version, and firmware, so use the current Lockin user manual hub for the exact lock in front of you.
Why can the Lockin app fail to find a lock over Bluetooth?
The app can fail to discover a Lockin lock when any of these conditions is true:
- The lock is not powered well enough to advertise nearby. A low or incorrectly seated battery can make the lock appear unresponsive. Lockin’s Veno guides tell owners to charge the rechargeable battery before installation and to confirm that the device powers on.
- Bluetooth is disabled on the phone. Bluetooth discovery requires the phone’s Bluetooth radio to be on.
- The Lockin Smart app lacks the required permission. On iPhone, Bluetooth access is controlled under Settings → Privacy & Security → Bluetooth. On Android, the relevant permission is usually called Nearby devices; some devices or older Android versions may also require Location or Bluetooth scanning to be enabled.
- The phone is not close enough to the lock. Bluetooth pairing is a local step. Stand beside the interior assembly rather than trying to add the lock from another room.
- The wrong model or setup path is selected. Veno models look related, but the app still needs the exact model. Lockin’s Veno Pro quick-start guide, for example, directs the owner to tap Add Device and then select Veno Pro.
- The lock is not ready for binding. The app may need the interior SET/setup button pressed when prompted. If the lock was previously bound, the account or reset state may also need to be resolved using the exact model’s instructions.
- The app is seeing a stale session. A failed first attempt, a suspended permission prompt, or an app update can leave the screen out of sync with the phone’s current Bluetooth state.
Fix the discovery problem in order
1. Keep the door open and confirm power first
Before repeating setup, keep the door open so a failed calibration or connection attempt cannot leave you locked out. Confirm that the battery is charged, installed in the correct orientation, and making firm contact. Wake the lock using its normal exterior or interior control and listen for its startup response.
For Veno Pro, the current quick-start guide specifies a rechargeable battery and recommends fully charging it before installation. It also lists a Type-C emergency charging port and mechanical backup keys. Those are safeguards—not substitutes for fixing the pairing problem—so keep the key accessible while you troubleshoot.
2. Turn on Bluetooth and grant the app permission
On an iPhone, open Settings → Privacy & Security → Bluetooth and allow Bluetooth for the Lockin Smart app. Apple explains that iOS 13 and later require an app’s permission to use Bluetooth functions.
On Android, open Settings → Apps → Lockin Smart → Permissions and allow Nearby devices if it is listed. Google defines Nearby devices as the permission used to find, connect to, and determine the relative position of nearby devices. On some Android versions or phone brands, also turn on Location and Bluetooth scanning if the phone’s instructions require them for discovery.
After changing a permission, close the Lockin Smart app completely and reopen it. Do not assume that Bluetooth being enabled globally also means the app is allowed to use it.
3. Start from the Lockin add-device screen
Sign in to the account that should own the lock. Open Devices, tap + or Add Device, and select the exact model shown on the lock’s packaging or manual. Follow the on-screen sequence rather than trying to add the lock from the phone’s general Bluetooth menu.
Lockin’s Veno FAQ describes the same basic route: download and register the Lockin Smart app, use Add Device, and follow the in-app pairing instructions. The Veno Pro guide similarly directs owners to Add Device and then Veno Pro.
4. Stand beside the interior assembly and complete the button step
Hold the phone close to the lock’s interior assembly while the app scans. Remove unnecessary distance and avoid testing through a closed door, metal obstruction, or another floor. When the app asks for the SET or setup button, press the button on the lock—not a similarly named control in another app.
The goal at this stage is only nearby binding. Lockin describes Bluetooth as the setup and access-management connection that comes before Wi‑Fi. Therefore, a lock not appearing in Add Device is a Bluetooth/power/setup problem first; changing the router will not make a powered-off lock appear in a local scan.
5. Refresh the phone and app state
If the lock still does not appear:
- Toggle the phone’s Bluetooth off, wait briefly, and turn it back on.
- Force-close and reopen the Lockin Smart app.
- Restart the phone if the permission or Bluetooth control still behaves inconsistently.
- Confirm the app is updated from the official iOS App Store or Google Play listing.
- Repeat Add Device with the phone beside the lock.
These steps refresh the phone’s connection state. They do not erase the lock or its credentials.
6. Check whether the lock is already bound
If the lock was previously installed or added to another account, the issue may be ownership or binding rather than radio range. Check that you are signed in to the original account or that the owner has completed the supported sharing process.
Do not factory-reset a bound lock just because it is missing from the scan. Lockin’s FAQ gives separate reset instructions for an unbound product and a bound Veno product, including administrator authentication for a bound reset. A reset can remove setup state and access credentials, so use the exact model’s manual and make sure you have the mechanical key and emergency-power method before proceeding.
What if Bluetooth works but Wi‑Fi setup fails?
That is a different layer. If the app can see and bind the lock, Bluetooth discovery has passed. Continue with the exact model’s Wi‑Fi instructions. Current Lockin Veno guidance identifies 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi for setup; the Veno Pro guide lists Bluetooth as BLE 5.0 and Wi‑Fi as 2.4 GHz. A 5 GHz-only network can therefore block the next step even though Bluetooth pairing succeeded.
Remote monitoring, remote lock/unlock, video, firmware, and Matter behavior also depend on the model, app, network, and platform. Do not treat a successful nearby Bluetooth connection as proof that every internet or smart-home feature is ready.
When should you contact Lockin support?
Contact Lockin support if the lock has confirmed power, Bluetooth is on, the app permission is allowed, the phone is beside the interior assembly, the exact model is selected, and the lock still never appears after restarting the app and phone. Include the model name, phone model and operating-system version, app version, whether the lock was previously bound, and which step stops.
Keep the door open while testing. If electronic methods remain unavailable, use the mechanical key or the exact model’s emergency-power procedure rather than repeatedly forcing a pairing attempt.
The practical answer
The Lockin app can fail to find a lock over Bluetooth because discovery depends on more than the phone’s Bluetooth switch: the lock must have power, the app must have permission, the phone must be nearby, the exact model and Add Device flow must be selected, and the lock must be ready to bind. Work through those local conditions first. Once the app sees the lock, move on to model-specific Wi‑Fi or smart-home setup—and keep a physical backup method available throughout.
