What Is a Smart-Lock Doorbell Auto-Reply—and When Is It Useful?

A smart lock doorbell auto reply is a message your lock gives a visitor when they ring and you cannot respond. On Lockin Veno Pro, Auto Reply lets you choose a preset message or configure up to four custom messages, plus set how long the visitor waits before the reply starts. It helps acknowledge someone at the door while you are busy. It does not grant them access. Veno Pro user manual, Auto Reply, page 14

How does smart lock doorbell auto reply work?

The documented trigger is someone ringing the doorbell when you are unable to respond. You set the visitor waiting time in Auto Reply. Do not assume that someone merely walking past the door will trigger the same response.

This fits Veno Pro's combination of a smart lock and a video doorbell: you can prepare a visitor response in advance, then use live communication when you are available. The Lockin Veno Pro product page describes its two-way video doorbell and app features.

Think of these as separate choices:

What you want to do Relevant function What to remember
Acknowledge a visitor when you cannot answer Auto Reply Uses a configured message after the selected wait.
Ask a visitor a question and hear their answer Live two-way communication Requires you to take part in the conversation.
Change how your voice sounds during communication Voice masking A separate feature from an automatic message.
Let an authorized person enter An unlock action or valid access credential Hearing a reply does not give a visitor permission or a way to unlock.

The manual lists remote unlocking separately from Auto Reply; choosing a reply is not an instruction to open the lock. Veno Pro user manual, access methods, page 2

When is an automatic reply useful?

Auto Reply is useful when a brief, prepared response is enough for the visitor's next step. For example, you may be on a work call, preparing a meal, or helping someone at home and unable to speak through the app immediately.

Before choosing a message, consider the visitors you actually receive. A delivery that can be left outside may need a simple instruction. A visitor who needs directions, a signature, or a decision about entering may need a live answer instead. A prepared response cannot resolve every unexpected question.

Choose wording that remains appropriate whenever the feature may activate. Keep private access information, such as a PIN, out of visitor messages. Avoid a promise to come to the door immediately if you cannot reliably do so.

How to set up Veno Pro Auto Reply

For a Veno Pro already added to your Lockin Smart account:

  1. Open Lockin Smart, go to Devices, and select your Veno Pro.
  2. Open Settings → Auto Reply.
  3. Review the preset messages available in your app, or configure a custom message using the controls shown there.
  4. Select the visitor waiting time. Choose among the values your app offers, allowing enough time for you to answer when you can.
  5. Follow any on-screen confirmation prompts, then test your selection at the door.

Lockin's manual documents preset messages and up to four custom messages. It does not print the preset scripts, timer choices, or instructions for how custom messages are entered. Use the wording and controls shown in your app rather than assuming a particular script, recording method, or number of seconds. Veno Pro user manual, Auto Reply, page 14

Test the experience from the visitor's side

Ask a household member to stand outside and ring the doorbell while you remain inside without answering. Have them check whether the expected reply is audible and whether the wait feels appropriate. Keep this a reply test; there is no need to share a PIN or unlock the door.

If the reply feels too late, review the available waiting-time settings. If the message does not fit the situation, revise your selection and test again. This also helps everyone at home recognize what visitors will hear.

What should you check before relying on it?

These instructions apply to Veno Pro. The manual linked from Lockin's user-manual page, checked September 8, 2026, is version 1.2, dated March 16, 2026. Its Auto Reply section does not specify offline behavior, a minimum app version, or a minimum firmware version. Do not treat it as a promise that replies work during a Wi-Fi outage.

If Auto Reply is missing or your test does not work, check the manual for your exact model and consult Lockin's FAQs. Contact Lockin support at support@lockin.com with your model, app and firmware versions, and what happened during the test.

For your household, the useful smart lock doorbell auto reply is one visitors can understand and you have checked at your own door. Open Veno Pro's Auto Reply settings, choose a suitable message and wait, and test it before relying on it during a busy moment.
