Short answer: do not assume it does. On Lockin Veno Pro, a motion-detection zone is a setting for where motion detection should be focused. The current Veno Pro manual documents that control separately from camera settings and recording controls; it does not document the selected zone as a privacy recording mask. If an area must not appear in saved video, treat that as unverified until you inspect the saved scene and confirm the behavior on your lock.
What a Veno Pro motion zone changes
The Lockin Smart App provides a Motion Detection section at Devices → select your lock → Settings → Motion Detection. The Veno Pro manual says you can set the motion-detection switch, range, sensitivity, detection type, and advanced detection zones. In practical terms, a zone helps decide where motion should contribute to detection and alerts—for example, the path in front of your door rather than a busy sidewalk at the edge of the view.
That is different from changing what the LockinCam sees. Veno Pro has a 2K, ultra-wide camera, and the product page describes customizable detection zones and target areas for more focused alerts. The same product page also describes local video storage. Those statements establish detection and storage as related features, not that an excluded rectangle is automatically hidden, blurred, or deleted from every recording.
Does excluding an area stop it being recorded?
The documented answer is: not confirmed. The manual does not say that an excluded motion zone blocks that part of the camera frame from recording. It also does not describe a permanent privacy mask, pixelation, or redaction tool in the Motion Detection instructions.
An excluded area might produce fewer motion-triggered events, depending on the saved configuration and firmware. But that is not the same as proving that the camera cannot record the area when:
- someone rings the doorbell;
- a recording is triggered by motion elsewhere in the frame;
- you open a live view;
- the selected Mode Settings allow motion recording; or
- another event creates a clip or notification.
Use the term detection exclusion, not recording privacy mask, unless Lockin documents or your own controlled test verifies the stronger behavior.
Keep these Veno Pro controls separate
Several settings can sound alike but answer different questions:

Optimal Battery Life records only when the doorbell is pressed, while Balanced Surveillance and Optimal Surveillance allow motion-triggered recordings with different duration behavior. Custom Mode lets you set recording duration, intervals, and active periods. These are recording-policy choices; they are not evidence of a geographic privacy mask.
How to configure a focused detection area
If your goal is fewer irrelevant alerts, use a motion zone as a detection-setting experiment:
- Open the Lockin Smart App and select your Veno Pro.
- Go to Settings → Motion Detection.
- Confirm that Motion Detection is on, then set the detection type, range, and sensitivity that fit your entryway.
- Use the advanced detection-zone control to focus on the area that matters, such as the approach to the door or the package drop-off area.
- Check Settings → Mode Settings and confirm the active mode’s recording and notification choices.
- Check Settings → Power Manager so the recording duration, interval, and active period match your goal and battery plan.
- Save the configuration, leave the app, and reopen the settings to confirm that the scene and values persisted.
If the door is open, motion detection is not active according to the manual. Test with the door fully closed, because an open-door test can give you a false impression about whether the zone works.
How to verify the privacy boundary before relying on it
Do not test only whether a notification arrives. The manual says that turning off push notifications for an event does not affect its recording in the Events log; the corresponding records and videos can still be saved. A quiet phone therefore does not demonstrate that an area was not recorded.
Run a simple, authorized test after saving the zone:
- Put a clearly visible, non-sensitive marker in the area you intended to exclude and another marker inside the active detection area.
- With the door closed, create a motion event in the active area. Review the saved event, not just the push notification.
- Repeat with movement only in the excluded area, if it is safe and practical. Check Events for a saved clip or record.
- Press the doorbell and review the resulting video. Doorbell-triggered recording can be governed by a different rule than motion detection.
- Open live view and check the visible camera frame. Live view answers what the camera can show; it does not by itself answer what is saved for every event.
- Repeat the check in each Mode Setting you actually use, including any geofenced or Party Mode configuration.
If the excluded marker still appears in a clip, the zone is not acting as a recording mask in that configuration. If it does not appear in one test, record the model, app/firmware version, mode, trigger type, and date before treating the result as dependable. A single test does not establish behavior after an update or in every mode.
What to do if you need stronger privacy assurance
For a room, neighbor’s doorway, walkway, or other sensitive area, do not rely on a detection-zone label alone. If the answer is still unclear, contact Lockin support before placing the camera where recording of that area would create a privacy problem.
