Lockin Veno Pro Says the Door Is Open When It Is Closed: What to Check

Lockin Veno Pro says the door is open when it is closed? Check the strike-plate sensor, door-status cable, alignment, and calibration safely.

If your Lockin Veno Pro reports the wrong door state, start with the door-status system—not the camera or palm-vein reader. Confirm that the Lockin strike plate is installed, that its sensor is aligned with the sensor beside the deadbolt, and that the door-status cable was not pinched during installation. Then recalibrate the deadbolt in the Lockin Smart App with the door closed. If the cable is damaged or the status remains wrong after calibration, stop forcing the lock and contact Lockin support.

What the Veno Pro is actually checking

The Lockin Veno Pro uses a door sensor that works with the strike plate on the door frame. That system is intended to tell the lock whether the door is fully closed and to support automatic locking and door-ajar alerts. A wrong status report does not necessarily mean the deadbolt motor is jammed. It can mean the lock is not receiving a reliable signal from the strike-side sensor.

This distinction matters:

What you see What it may indicate First place to check
The door is physically closed, but the app says open Door-status sensing or alignment problem Strike plate, sensor alignment, cable
The bolt stops, strains, or announces a failure to open or close Mechanical interference or motor-jam condition Bolt path, strike opening, door alignment
An alert arrives after the door stays open Door-ajar alert setting or detected open state Audio Settings and door-status hardware

Do not treat a door-status error as proof that the lock, camera, Wi-Fi, or biometric reader needs a factory reset.

Lockin Veno Pro door status wrong: check the strike plate first

The most important hardware check is the strike plate installed on the door frame. The Veno Pro troubleshooting guide says the strike plate must include door-status detection and that its sensor must align with the sensor on the deadbolt side of the lock.

With the door open and the lock safely inactive, check these points:

  1. Confirm that the Lockin standard strike plate with door-status detection is installed. A visually similar plate without the sensor may not report door position correctly.
  2. Look at the gap and alignment between the strike-plate sensor and the matching sensor beside the deadbolt. The two sensors need to meet in the intended closed-door position.
  3. Close the door gently and check whether the latch enters the strike opening freely. Do not push or pull the door hard to make the bolt fit.
  4. Check whether the strike plate is loose, shifted, bent, or sitting at an angle. A small change in the door or frame can change the sensor relationship.
  5. Check the latch opening for debris or an insufficient-depth hole. The Veno Pro troubleshooting guide specifies at least 1 inch (25.4 mm) of latch-hole depth.

If the door must be lifted, pressed, or pulled to make the status change, treat that as an alignment or fit problem. The lock should not have to overcome pressure from the frame.

Inspect the door-status cable without stressing it

The FAQ and troubleshooting guide both warn that the door-status cable can be damaged during installation. The cable needs to pass through the crossbore below the deadbolt; fixing screws can pinch or break it if it is routed incorrectly.

If you are authorized and comfortable removing the interior assembly, inspect the cable path against the current Veno Pro user manual. Look for a sharp bend, crushed insulation, a loose connection, or visible damage. Keep the battery and interior assembly supported while checking. Do not pull on the cable or probe an unknown connector.

If the cable is visibly damaged, skip repeated calibration attempts and contact Lockin support. The official troubleshooting guide specifically directs owners to customer service when the door-status cable is damaged.

Recalibrate the Veno Pro with the door closed

After confirming that the strike plate and cable appear correctly installed, use the calibration control in the Lockin Smart App. The Veno Pro manual lists calibration during setup, and the troubleshooting guide refers to the app's “Recalibrate” control and to calibrating the deadbolt from lock settings.

Use this sequence:

  1. Update the Lockin Smart App and the lock firmware if an update is available.
  2. Make sure the door is fully closed and that the latch can move without rubbing or binding.
  3. Open the Veno Pro in the app and go to the lock settings.
  4. Choose the deadbolt calibration or recalibration option shown for your current app version.
  5. Follow the on-screen prompts and complete the calibration with the door in the requested position.
  6. Test the state with the door open, then closed. Confirm the app changes state consistently before enabling or relying on automatic locking.

App labels can change between versions, so follow the current prompt rather than assuming an older screenshot or menu path is identical. If calibration cannot complete, return to the physical strike and cable checks instead of repeatedly forcing the deadbolt.

Test the result safely

Run a short, supervised test before leaving the home:

  • With the door open, confirm that the lock does not drive the bolt into the frame.
  • Close the door normally and verify that the app shows the closed state.
  • Lock and unlock while watching and listening for rubbing, grinding, repeated beeps, or a “Failed to Open or Close the Door” message.
  • Open the door again and confirm that the status changes back.
  • If you use automatic locking, test it while you are still indoors with a backup key available.

The product FAQ describes a properly installed Veno Pro as one whose latch extends and retracts smoothly, whose hardware is secure, and whose auto-lock works normally. A status reading that changes only when the door is pushed, or a bolt that meets resistance, is not a successful test.

When the symptom is not a door-status problem

Some Veno Pro messages describe a different condition. A motor-jam warning can result from contact between the bolt and strike or from changes in door-frame alignment. In that case, inspect the bolt path and frame fit; do not try to solve mechanical resistance by changing the door-status alert delay.

Likewise, a delayed door-ajar alarm is a settings question, not necessarily a false state report. The Veno Pro manual lists the door-ajar controls under Lockin Smart App → Devices → your lock → Settings → Audio Settings, with configurable alarm volume, activation delay, and duration. Those controls determine how the alert behaves after an open state is detected; they do not repair a misaligned sensor.

If Lockin Veno Pro door status is still wrong

Record what you observed before contacting support:

  • Whether the app says open, closed, or changes intermittently
  • Whether the physical door is fully latched
  • Whether the strike plate includes the door-status sensor
  • Whether the sensor faces align when the door is closed
  • Whether the door-status cable shows damage or a loose connection
  • Whether recalibration completed successfully
  • Any motor, alarm, or “failed to open or close” message

Send that information, your order details, and clear photos of the strike area and installation only through Lockin’s official support path. Do not publish your administrator password or access codes in a support message.

For model-specific steps, use the Lockin Veno Pro product page, the Lockin FAQ, and the Veno Pro user manual. If you are troubleshooting Lockin Veno Pro door status wrong, verify your door dimensions and hardware against the official documentation before ordering replacement parts or changing the installation. A correctly aligned, correctly cabled Veno Pro should report the closed state without pressure on the door or bolt.
