If you are sharing a Lockin Veno Solar Palm, use an Apple Home Resident role for a trusted household member who needs ongoing control, and use a Lockin guest PIN for a visitor or service provider who needs controlled entry for a limited time. Apple Home Guest access is a separate option, but do not assume it provides an Apple Home Key or that it exposes the same controls as a Lockin passcode on Veno Solar Palm.

Apple Home Resident, Guest, and a Lockin PIN are different access models
The names sound similar, but they answer different household questions.
An Apple Home Resident is a person added to the Apple Home. Apple says Residents have local and optional remote access to all accessories in the home at any time. The home owner can separately control whether a shared user may control accessories remotely and whether they may add or edit accessories, scenes, automations, and other users. That makes Resident access appropriate for someone who is part of the household—not simply someone who needs to open the door once.
An Apple Home Guest is still an Apple Home person, but Apple describes the role as local-only access to specific doors, locks, and other security-related accessories on a set schedule. The Guest role is available only when the Home contains security-related accessories in the Home app. It is therefore a platform role with Apple Account and Home-app conditions, not a synonym for every temporary code in the Lockin app.
A Lockin guest PIN is a credential created and managed in the Lockin Smart App. The Veno Solar Palm product page lists one-time, scheduled, and recurring passcodes for guests and other temporary access needs. This route is useful when the person does not need to become a member of your Apple Home, or when you want access management to remain in the lock’s own app.
What Apple Home can confirm for a Lockin Veno Solar Palm
Lockin lists Veno Solar Palm as Matter compatible and says Apple Home requires a compatible Matter device. The page also notes that smart-home features and automations may vary by platform and directs owners to the Lockin Smart App for full lock setup, settings, and management.
That means Matter compatibility can make the lock available in Apple Home; it does not, by itself, prove that every Lockin access feature appears in Apple Home, that Apple Home Guest will generate a Veno credential, or that Apple Home Key is supported. Apple Home and Apple Home Key are not interchangeable terms.
Before changing access for a real person, check what the current Apple Home setup actually offers for this lock. If the person needs reliable entry and the Apple role or credential is not clearly shown, use a method documented for the Veno Solar Palm—such as a Lockin passcode, the Lockin app, palm-vein recognition when enrolled locally, or the mechanical key as a backup.
Choose Apple Home Resident when the person shares the home
Choose Resident when all of these are true:
- The person is trusted with ongoing access to the home, not just a scheduled visit.
- They need Apple Home control of the lock or other accessories.
- You accept that their access is governed by Apple Home membership and permissions, including the remote-control setting.
- You have tested the lock from that person’s device and confirmed the intended local or remote behavior.
To add a Resident, Apple’s current workflow is:
- Open the Home app on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
- Tap or click Add, then choose Add People.
- Select the Resident role.
- Choose a person with an Apple Account or enter their Apple Account email address.
- Send the invitation and have the person accept it in the Home app.
After acceptance, review Home Settings > People > that person. Apple provides a separate Control Accessories Remotely permission. Leave it off if the household policy is local-only; turn it on only when remote control is intentional and has been tested.
Do not give a roommate Resident status solely because they need one door opening. Resident access is broader than a single visit and may include the other accessories in the home.
Choose a Lockin guest PIN for temporary or service access
A Lockin passcode is usually the cleaner fit for a cleaner, dog walker, delivery arrangement, contractor, or guest whose access should expire or follow a schedule. The Veno Solar Palm page lists:
- One-time passcodes for a single visit.
- Scheduled passcodes for defined times.
- Recurring passcodes for repeated visits.
Create the narrowest credential that solves the problem. Confirm the exact code type, start and end conditions, and the lock’s current connectivity in the Lockin Smart App. Then test it at the door while you can still provide a backup method. After the visit, pause or remove access according to the current app controls and household policy.
For a guest arriving while you are away, a Lockin passcode avoids adding that person to your Apple Home. Remote unlock may be another option where the app and connection support it, but a remote unlock performed by the owner is not the same as issuing a guest credential. Keep that distinction clear in your household instructions and activity-log review.
What about Apple Home Guest?
Apple Home Guest can be useful when the current Home setup supports the role and the guest needs local-only, scheduled access to a specific lock. Apple’s documented role rules are the decision boundary: the guest uses an Apple Account, access is local-only, and the owner selects the schedule and eligible security accessories.
For Veno Solar Palm, treat Apple Home Guest as conditional, not as a guaranteed substitute for a Lockin PIN. The current Lockin product page confirms Matter-based Apple Home compatibility and separately documents Lockin passcodes; it does not state that Veno Solar Palm supports Apple’s Guest role in every setup or that it supports Apple Home Key. If Apple Home does not show the expected Guest controls for the lock, stop and use a Lockin credential confirmed in the Lockin Smart App instead.
A safe handoff checklist
Before you rely on shared access, verify the following:
- Exact model: confirm the lock is Veno Solar Palm, not another Veno model with different platform behavior.
- Apple setup: confirm the lock was added to Apple Home through the supported Matter flow and that the person accepted the intended invitation.
- Role boundary: Resident means ongoing home membership; Guest means Apple’s local-only scheduled role; a Lockin PIN is managed in the Lockin app.
- Credential test: test the person’s intended method with the door closed only after the method works safely with the door open.
- Backup: keep the mechanical key available and make sure the household knows the model’s emergency-access plan.
- Removal: remove the person from Apple Home when they should no longer be a Resident, and separately review Lockin app access or passcodes. Apple notes that removing someone from Home may not remove permissions they still have in a separate accessory app.
Bottom line
For Lockin Apple Home resident guest access, choose Apple Home Resident for a trusted, ongoing household member who needs home-wide Apple control. Choose a Lockin guest PIN for time-bounded or service access, especially when the person does not need Apple Home membership. Consider Apple Home Guest only when the current setup visibly supports Apple’s local-only scheduled role for the exact lock.
