How Can You Reduce False Motion Alerts on a Lockin Video Smart Lock?

If your Lockin video smart lock is sending too many motion alerts, start with the Lockin Smart App: reduce the detection range and sensitivity, narrow the detection zone to the approach you actually want to watch, and choose a mode that matches your doorstep. Then review one event before changing another setting. This keeps useful recordings while reducing alerts caused by activity outside the entry area.

The exact controls depend on the model and app version. Lockin’s Veno Plus manual documents controls for the motion-detection switch, range, sensitivity, detection type, and advanced detection zones. The Veno Pro product evidence describes customizable detection zones and detection of people, packages, and vehicles. Treat those as model-specific controls—not as a promise that every Lockin video model has the same menu.

What causes false motion alerts?

An alert is not necessarily a failed lock or a security incident. A video smart lock can react to activity that enters the configured detection area but is not relevant to the doorway, such as:

  • a sidewalk, driveway, or road visible beyond the entry;
  • moving shadows, reflections, headlights, rain, or branches in the camera view;
  • a package or object that remains in the detection area and moves again;
  • people or vehicles that pass through the edge of a broad zone;
  • a setting that is optimized for maximum surveillance rather than a quiet notification stream.

Use the event record to identify the pattern before you lower everything. If the recording shows real activity at the door, the goal is to make the zone and sensitivity more precise—not to disable protection blindly.

How can you reduce false motion alerts on a Lockin video smart lock?

1. Start with the Motion Detection settings

In the Lockin Smart App, open the device and look for Settings → Motion Detection. On Veno Plus, the manual identifies controls for the motion-detection switch, detection range, sensitivity, detection type, and advanced settings for selecting detection zones.

Make one small change at a time:

  1. Keep the detection feature on if you still want recordings or alerts.
  2. Shorten the detection range so the active area ends near the property or approach you want to monitor.
  3. Lower sensitivity if brief or distant movement is producing repeated alerts.
  4. Use the available detection type or target selection to focus on the objects that matter for your use case.
  5. Save the change and observe several normal events before adjusting again.

Avoid starting at the lowest possible setting. A setting that eliminates every false alert may also miss a visitor standing farther from the door.

2. Tighten the detection zone around the entry

The best zone usually includes the landing, walkway, or doorstep where a visitor must appear. It does not need to include the entire street, a neighboring walkway, or the full 180° camera view.

For a Veno Pro, Lockin describes customizable detection zones and person, package, and vehicle categories. Use the zone and target controls together: for example, keep the area immediately around the door active while removing a street-facing portion that creates vehicle alerts. For Veno Plus, the manual describes advanced detection settings for package-at-the-door and other activities.

After saving a zone, test it from the locations that matter:

  • approach from the sidewalk or driveway;
  • stand at the normal visitor position;
  • place and remove a package if package events are relevant;
  • walk across the edge of the zone to see whether the boundary is too wide.

If a legitimate visitor is missed, expand the zone slightly before increasing sensitivity across the entire view.

3. Match the mode to your household’s traffic

Veno Plus documentation says Mode Settings can control whether motion-detection recording, motion alerts, and remote camera live view are enabled for each mode. It also documents automatic mode switching through geofencing and a Party Mode option.

That gives you a practical way to reduce predictable alert volume. During a period with frequent arrivals, choose a mode that does not send the same level of motion notifications as an empty-home period. When you leave, use a more watchful mode if that fits your household and privacy expectations.

Check the mode after changing it. The manual warns that adjustments to other functions or modes may affect the motion-detection switch settings. If alerts suddenly return after a schedule or mode change, compare the active mode with the Motion Detection settings instead of assuming the sensor has failed.

4. Use Power Manager when alerts are also draining the battery

Too many motion events can be both a notification problem and a power-management problem. Veno Plus documentation describes four Power Manager choices:

Mode Documented emphasis When to consider it
Optimal Battery Life Recording occurs when the doorbell is pressed; remote camera viewing remains available Low traffic or when battery life is the priority
Balanced Surveillance Motion-triggered recordings can last up to 20 seconds, with automatic interval management A normal starting point for everyday use
Optimal Surveillance Motion-triggered recordings can last up to 60 seconds When coverage matters more than power use
Custom Mode Set recording duration, intervals, and active periods for motion detection When your entry has a predictable schedule

The documented recording durations are settings described for Veno Plus; do not assume the same limits on Veno Pro. If your problem is alert frequency, fix the detection zone and sensitivity first. If the problem is also battery drain, then review Power Manager and the active mode.

5. Separate notification control from event history

Silencing push notifications is useful when you need a quieter phone, but it is not the same as stopping detection. Lockin’s manual states that turning off push notifications for an event does not affect its recording in the Events log; corresponding records and videos can still be saved.

Use that distinction deliberately:

  • use Motion Detection settings to change what the lock detects or records;
  • use Rich Notification settings to change what reaches your phone;
  • use the Events log to check whether a “false” alert contains a real but irrelevant movement.

For Veno Plus, the manual says that tapping a motion-detection notification can open the live feed or the corresponding event record. That makes the event record the right place to verify whether the setting change improved the result.

A five-minute tuning routine

Use this sequence after installation, a camera-angle change, or a seasonal change in light:

  1. Open the latest unwanted event and name the trigger: distant vehicle, shadow, package movement, passerby, or unknown.
  2. Check whether the trigger is inside the active zone or only near its edge.
  3. Reduce the range or remove the irrelevant part of the zone.
  4. Lower sensitivity one step if distant or brief movement remains a problem.
  5. Test a legitimate approach and review the next few Events entries.
  6. If the phone is still too noisy but the recordings are useful, adjust Rich Notification settings rather than disabling recording.
  7. If a mode change caused the behavior, restore the intended mode and recheck Motion Detection.

Keep a note of the original setting. That makes it easier to reverse a change if the lock stops alerting for a real visitor.

When should you contact Lockin support?

Contact Lockin support if the lock keeps generating alerts after you have confirmed the active mode, narrowed the detection area, reduced sensitivity, and reviewed the event records—or if the app does not show the controls documented for your model. Include the model name, app version if available, the active mode, the detection settings, and a representative event time. Do not describe Veno Pro and Veno Plus as interchangeable: Veno Pro is documented with people, package, and vehicle detection plus 32 GB local video storage, while Veno Plus is documented with person detection and 8 GB local storage.

For model-specific setup, see the Veno Pro Palm Vein Recognition Video Smart Lock, the Veno Plus Palm Vein Recognition Video Smart Lock, Lockin’s FAQ, and the user-manual library. If you want to understand the difference between a notification and a stored event, read Smart Lock Activity Logs vs. Real-Time Alerts.

The short answer

To reduce false motion alerts on a Lockin video smart lock, narrow the Motion Detection range and zone first, lower sensitivity gradually, select the relevant detection type where your model supports it, and match Mode Settings and Power Manager to your household’s traffic. If you only want fewer phone interruptions, change Rich Notification settings instead of turning off event recording. Always verify the exact controls for your Veno model and current app version before relying on the result.
